Ashworth Heritage Stonemasons

About us

Three generations in stone

Ashworth has worked the local stone since 1968. What began as one mason with a yard in Cirencester is now a small team, but the way we work has not changed.

An Ashworth mason at the banker

Harold Ashworth cut his first mullion in 1968. His son took on the yard in the nineties, and today the third generation works alongside a handful of masons who have been with us for years. We are deliberately small: it means the person who quotes your job is usually the one who carries it out.

Most of our work is conservation, which is a quieter discipline than it sounds. It is about understanding why a piece of stone has failed, choosing a repair that respects the building, and using materials that will not do harm in twenty years' time. That usually means lime, and it always means matching the stone to the place it came from.

We take on new-build stonework, memorials and walling too, and we bring the same habits to all of it. We would rather turn a job down than do it in a way we would not be proud to sign.
