St Mary's church tower repair
The parapet and pinnacles of a 15th-century church tower had opened up after decades of cement pointing trapped water in the stone. We raked out the failed mortar, replaced the worst-eroded ashlar with hand-cut Cotswold stone bedded in lime, and repointed the whole tower in a matched lime mortar finish. The work was carried out over a full season with the conservation officer and the diocese.

Hand-lettered Portland headstone
A family memorial in Portland stone, designed with the family and lettered entirely by hand. We chose a simple ogee-topped form to suit the churchyard, cut the inscription in a traditional Roman serif, and arranged the permissions and fixing with the parish. The stone was quarried on the Isle of Portland and finished with a fine axed face. A quiet commission that took the time it needed.

Almshouse chimney rebuild
A leaning seventeenth-century chimney stack on a row of almshouses, taken down course by course and rebuilt to its original profile. We numbered and reused the original stone wherever it was sound, cut new copings to match, and re-bedded the whole stack in lime. The flues were relined as part of the same scaffold.

Rebuilt dry-stone boundary wall
Around eighty metres of collapsed roadside boundary wall, rebuilt in the traditional dry-stone method using the original stone reclaimed from the fall. We re-set the foundations, built up the double-skin wall with through-stones, and finished with a combed coping. No mortar, so it will move with the bank and can be repaired stone by stone.

Farmhouse extension in coursed rubble
A two-storey extension to a Grade II farmhouse, built in coursed Cotswold rubble to match the original range. We cut the window heads, cills and quoins by hand and matched the coursing and mortar so the new gable reads as part of the old house. Working from the architect's drawings, we coordinated with the main contractor through to completion.

Tithe barn buttress rebuild
A failing corner buttress on a fourteenth-century tithe barn, rebuilt to arrest movement in the gable above. We propped the wall, took the buttress down to sound footing, and rebuilt it in matched limestone bedded in a hot-mixed lime. Deliberately left unsynced, to prove the owner's publish does not delete it.

Market house column repairs
The Cotswold stone columns carrying the 17th-century market house had spalled badly where iron cramps had rusted and expanded. We recorded the arrangement, removed the failed cramps, pieced in new hand-cut stone to match the weathering, and re-bedded the whole colonnade in lime mortar. The scheme was agreed with the town council's conservation adviser.
